People’s deputies stressed that in view of control over adherence to fulfillment of the Decree of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “On preparation and celebration of the 200th birth anniversary of Taras Shevchenko” the Committee keeps a close watch over the problems connected with preparation to the jubilee and decent preservation of memory of the great Kobzar.
Participants of discussion expressed concern with “absence of systemic work in the process of preparation to the jubilee of Taras Shevchenko; obvious violations of monument protection legislation; tendency of administration to behind-the-scenes decisions and blatantly ignoration of the established image of Ukrainian genius”.
It goes about the state of preparation of the building of the Museum, the course of repair works and preparation of a new draft thematic exhibition plan of the Museum.
Following the results of discussion, Committee members took the following decision:
“I. In view of deep controversy of the suggested draft thematic exhibition plan of the Museum, extremely sharp objections on the part of museum personnel, Shevchenko’s critics and representatives of the publicity concerning key provisions of this Plan, and in respect to minimum readiness state of the Museum to establishment of a new exhibition, suggest the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine restore previous exhibition with certain changes.”
The Committee also made several other recommendations to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and the Taras Shevchenko National Museum.
